God Knows

Last week, two packages didn’t arrive the day we expected, but the next day my husband discovered them at our neighbor’s front door. We’re at the end of the road, so it’s easy enough to spot the mistake. Nonetheless it’s frustrating. We’re definitely spoiled to the convenience of home delivery! Packages follow us where we go now. You can designate a pick up location, and if you’re not planning to be home to receive your delivery, you can reschedule, forward, or hold it with the few clicks on your smartphone. Tracking packages has become relatively simple. Holding and forwarding mail no longer requires standing in line to fill out a form at the post office. This can be done easily online and even seeing what to expect in the mailbox daily by email subscription means my apartment dwelling kids rarely check their mail, opting instead to pay bills online and ignore everything else. What I realized in the face of all this convenience is that I tend to complain about the slightest hiccup. Shouldn’t I simply be grateful?

Each and every day of my life, God delivers exactly what I need just when I need it. His blessings follow me even when I take no action. If I’m not where I’m supposed to be and I fail to leave a forwarding address, still His grace and mercy find me.

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

When Israel settled in Egypt under Pharaoh’s protection while Joseph served as his second in command, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob multiplied greatly. Hundreds of years later, the salvation God had brought to Egypt through Joseph was long forgotten and God’s chosen people suffered as slaves. God had not forgotten His promise to Jacob and He was not powerless to act.

God sees me and He sees you, my friend! He takes notice and He is concerned. He knows all, understands all, and remembers all.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

God is omniscient, knowing all that can be known in all of time and space for all eternity. His knowledge extends farther than the edges of the known universe, deeper than the uncharted ocean depths, and wider than the east is from the west. In fact, the same is said in Scripture of His love.

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. God’s knowledge, the extent of His love, His wisdom and understanding, and His peace surpass knowledge, defying human understanding. Still, in case you ever wonder, God knows and He cares. You and I don’t have to search frantically for His blessing, fearful of missing something important. Simply be grateful!
