The older I get, the more I am aware of the fact that my eyes are getting older too. I notice myself holding things a little farther away as I read them. I also notice that when I am outside in the sunlight I can see so much better.
“Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body.
When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light.
But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness.”
Luke 11:34 NLT

This verse is not about our eyesight literally. It’s not about a need for glasses. It’s about a need for light- The Light of the world.
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 8:12 NLT

Having healthy eyes means we are looking at Jesus! His light floods our lives enabling us to see things clearly through His lens of truth.
Having unhealthy eyes means we choose to see things through the world’s perspective and things will quickly become dark.
Jesus loves us completely and without exception. Looking at Him we can love others this way, too.
The world judges. The world looks at us as not good enough. Looking at the world, we will begin to judge others this way, too.
The fruit of looking at the Light of the World is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.
The fruits of looking at the world are hate, sadness, anxiety, frustration, mean-spiritedness, evilness, faithlessness, harshness, and lack of self control.

In order to live in the Light, we must look to Jesus, the Light of the world.
•He is The Word, so we read our Bible everyday.
•He intercedes for us before the Father, so we talk to Him continuously, praying without ceasing.
•He is always with us, so we rest in Him.
•His Spirit fills us up, so we walk confidently, praising Him in every circumstance.
•He reveals Himself to us in every moment, so we praise Him for who He is and all that He has done for us.
His light flows into our eyes and our perspective changes! Our whole bodies become full of His light!
Lord,
Help me to daily lock my eyes on you and who you say I am. Help me to keep my eyes healthy by focusing on you, the Light of the world. Fill my entire being with your light, making all the darkness of the world flee! You are able!
I love you!
Amen
“This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.
But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
1 John 1:5-9 NLT

“But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.”
