Menu confusion is my nemesis, hovering over every lunch date and dinner plan. I can’t concentrate on making conversation for trying to decide what I should order. Usually there are so many excellent choices, it’s hard to choose just one. In my experience, most servers are pretty good at reading their costumers. They recognize indecision and ask if I need a little more time, then return with the closer. Have you decided?
I’ve regretted a few meal choices over the years, but usually I leave satisfied. Choosing one meal when I consume three daily shouldn’t be a big deal. Once I’ve settled on a restaurant, I choose from the available menu options. There will be plenty of other opportunities to make a different decision. Often, I know what I will order before I arrive.
Daily life is full of choices. Jesus cautioned the crowds who came to hear him against worrying about inconsequential things, but he also explained at length to some Jewish leaders that some choices are made for eternity.
“Then Jesus said to his disciples:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.
For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.”
Luke 12:22-23 NIV

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life.
They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.”
John 5:24 NLT

There are surely plenty of choices about what to believe, but Jesus is very clear about one thing. Anyone who listens to His message and believes in God has eternal life. They have already passed from death into life.
The food I order and consume is inconsequential because it will only be with me for a short while. Jesus offers us Himself for all eternity. Do you need more time or have you decided?
Thank You, Jesus, for Your message, which You hand delivered to us. You came as a baby, lived as a man, and suffered death on a cross so that sin and death could be defeated once and for all.
I am undecided about many things in this life, but one thing I know- You are God and I trust You! Help me make choices that align my life to the truth of Your Word. I ask this in Jesus’s name.
Amen.
