“Lolly’s here, baby,” I whispered.
“Mama, Dada,” he repeated, sleepily.
“Mama’s sleeping. Daddy’s sleeping. Lolly’s here,” I gently intoned.
He stirred, not quite awake but restless. I leaned close to his ear and hummed Jesus Loves Me as I ran my fingers through his hair. He sighed and began to breathe more slowly and steadily.
Being present is sometimes all that is necessary to comfort a small child. Scooping them into your arms, holding a tiny hand, or even just making eye contact- anything that says I’m here- brings peace and calm.
Our Heavenly Father whispered I’m here when he walked with Adam and Eve in the garden. His I’m here echoes through the lives of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, Daniel, Ruth, and Rahab. (Hebrews 11) He introduced Himself as Immanuel- God with us- and took on human flesh when Jesus walked the earth, and His Holy Spirit now indwells all who abide in Him. (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, John 15) His promise is a place prepared for all who believe where we can be with Him forever. (John 14)
“But Jesus spoke to them at once.
“Don’t be afraid,” he said.
“Take courage.
I am here!””

We are never alone. When night falls and we’re in trouble, fighting wind and waves far from shore, struggling to keep our faith afloat, hear His voice above the storm.
I’m here.
Take the step of faith.
Step out of the boat.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
“Even the wind and waves obey Him!” (Mark 4:41)

“Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him.
“You have so little faith,” Jesus said.
“Why did you doubt me?””
Matthew 14:31 NLT
