Craving Comfort

Guest Post by Kimberly J. Branham

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NLT

There are comfort foods, comfy blankets, comfy chairs, comfy beds, even comforting people. My daughter, Anna Grace, gives comforting hugs! When we are tired, or disappointed, or sad, or feeling overwhelmed, we may look to one of these comforting things to get us through. Their comfort may last for a bit, but eventually we will have to get out of that comfy bed or chair, stop eating that comfort food, uncover from our comfy blanket, and even as amazing as Anna Grace’s hugs are…she can’t hug me forever!

But God, our Heavenly Father, is the source of all comfort! He is a merciful, loving Father who will comfort us completely and without end. His comfort never fades. He is always with us. He knows how we feel better than anyone else. He never tires of listening to our hearts and He collects our tears in a bottle. He comforts us in all of our troubles.

As you allow God to be your source of comfort, He will give you the opportunity to comfort others. Our trials take on a very precious purpose when we look at them in this light. God comforts us in our trials so we can comfort others by sharing our stories of God’s comfort.

◦ When you need comforting, it’s ok to climb in your comfy chair, cover up with your comfy blanket and rest! Those comforting things are gifts from a good God. But don’t stop there. Look daily to your Heavenly Father, the source of all comfort. Meditate on His Word, thank Him for all He has done through Jesus. Pray and share your needs with Him. His comfort far exceeds the comforts of this world and it never runs out. He is the SOURCE of all comfort!

Many thanks to God for my family who shows me His love always, but especially when I have a need. Thank you, Kim, for sharing your writing from your quiet time with me and the world!
