Are You Coming To The Wedding?

The steady gentle breeze was a touch of heaven following the heat wave of the week leading up to the ceremony. Our friends couldn’t have custom-ordered a more picture perfect day for their son’s wedding. The landscaping was immaculate. We would never have guessed the pristine sidewalks were under construction earlier in the week had we not heard it from the groom’s dad. The bride and groom were all smiles as the minister reminded us of the sacredness of marriage and how it is the best earthly example we have of the the Gospel.

This event was by invitation only. Responses were counted and reservations made well in advance. Each guest was thoughtfully chosen, having close connection to the families of either the bride or groom. It was an honor to be included. My husband and I merely showed up. We were escorted to our seats, provided a meal, and even our car was valet parked. We witnessed the vows and shared fellowship at someone else’s expense, all because of a father’s love for his child.

““For this is how God loved the world:

He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 NLT

“He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.

He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”

John 1:10-12 NLT

The love of God the Father was fully expressed in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ the Son and by the gift of His Holy Spirit. God showed the lengths He was willing to go out of His great love for you and me.

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Romans 5:6, 8 NLT

As epic as last evening’s celebration was, it in no way compares to the wedding to end all weddings which will usher in eternity.

“Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder:

“Praise the Lord!

For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him.

For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.

She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”

For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.

And the angel said to me,

“Write this:

Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.”

And he added, “These are true words that come from God.””

Revelation 19:6-9 NLT
