The Power Of Praise

This Sunday’s Devotion written by
Caroline R. Bulman, my daughter
and mother to my first grandson

“I was glad when they said to me,

“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

Psalms 122:1 NLT

Sunday morning worship has always been a part of my life, whether in person or, more recently, online. Now I get to take my son to worship with me and although he doesn’t understand yet why we’re singing or what the scripture means, he’s learning the importance of worship together. Even on the mornings when my heart isn’t in the right place, it never ceases to amaze me how God uses worship and fellowship with other believers to bring me back to Him!

As a new mom it’s really easy to justify not making time for worship or my daily devotional. Taking care of my eleven month old is more than I can handle some days and I find myself in a downward spiral of stress and self-pity. Too often I allow myself to take it out on my son rather than taking a moment to ask God for help. The Bible gives the most simple solution to dealing with our problems. Give them to God. Whether you whisper a simple prayer, shout at the top of your lungs, or sing it in your heart as a song, God is always listening and is ready with His reply before you even speak!

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

1 Peter 5:7 NLT

In the last few months, I’ve found a new love for worship with my son because he loves music! His favorite song is Promises by Maverick City Music. Not just the radio version but the ten minute extended live worship video featuring Joe L. Barnes and Naomi Raine. https://youtu.be/q5m09rqOoxE On long car rides, we play this on repeat because it always calms Thomas down and I love listening to the words!

“Faithful through the ages

God of Abraham

You’re the God of covenant

And of faithful promises

Time and time again

You have proven

You’ll do just what You said

Though the storms may come and the winds may blow

I’ll remain steadfast

And let my heart learn, when You speak a word

It will come to pass

Great is Your faithfulness to me

From the rising sun to the setting same

I will praise Your name

Great is Your faithfulness to me”

When Thomas and I worship together with this beautiful song, it puts everything back into perspective. It reminds me that the God I serve is, was, and will always be faithful! No matter what I face in this life, He is always there for me and He is sovereign over all things!

“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!

Worship the Lord with gladness.

Come before him, singing with joy.

Acknowledge that the Lord is God!

He made us, and we are his.

We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise.

Give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good.

His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”

Psalms 100:1-5 NLT

Thank you God for the gift of worship! Thank you for the fellowship that we can share as believers when we worship you together! Great is your faithfulness to me, to my son, and to all who call upon your name!

We love you Lord Jesus.

Amen!
