Amelia has already staked her claim on a bedroom in her new house. We watched as the foundation was poured and the walls went up. The doors and windows stand ready in the garage, waiting to be installed. Giant metallic limbs spiral down from the attic like an overgrown octopus held back by a net of crisscrossing pipes and wires evidencing the work of plumbers, electricians and heating and air technicians. Once the stairs to the second floor were in place, her parents led Amelia and her little brother, Ezra across the street for their first walk through their new home. Amelia singled out the room across the hall from her mom and dad and though she has not paid a penny toward the down payment, she confidently etched her name into the window frame in black Sharpie.
“See my room, Yolly?” she says excitedly, pointing to the second story window. She is not liable for the mortgage and she will never make a payment. Her mom and dad put down the deposit, arranged the financing, and they will pay off the balance along with the taxes and insurance the entire time Amelia lives in their home. Her room is bought and paid for by someone else but it’s still Amelia’s room.
“Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], And by knowledge shall its chambers [of every area] be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

Amelia is only four. She has no problem leaving the mortgage to her parents. She doesn’t concern herself with the details of construction. She did request a blue house and her parents agreed. She can show you the way from her room to her bathtub, currently the only fixture in her bathroom, by ducking between wall studs and she will tell you that her closet is almost as big as mommy and daddy’s. She didn’t do a thing to earn a new room in a new house, as if she could. She is content knowing that the builders who come every weekday are building her house and when it’s ready, her room will be waiting me she will move right in!
““Don’t let your hearts be troubled.
Trust in God, and trust also in me.
There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.
If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

Every child of God can lay claim to Jesus’s promise in exactly the same way Amelia has. In reality that’s what Faith look like. We haven’t paid a penny for salvation and we can do nothing to earn it. We are saved by grace though faith in the finished work of Jesus.
“But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.
God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.
And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”
Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child.
And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.”

“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone.
It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on.
Whoever believes need never be shaken.”
Isaiah 28:16 NLT

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.
Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Colossians 2:6-7 NLT

“Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets.
And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.
We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.”
Ephesians 2:20-22 NLT

“So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom.
O satisfy us with Your mercy and loving-kindness in the morning [now, before we are older], that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad in proportion to the days in which You have afflicted us and to the years in which we have suffered evil.
Let Your work [the signs of Your power] be revealed to Your servants, and Your [glorious] majesty to their children.
And let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands–yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it.”
